London’s new Ultra Low Emissions Zone (ULEZ) is set to launch from Monday, charging drivers £12,50 per day to use the roads on top of Congestion Charge fees. However, speaking exclusively to, Conservative London Assembly member Keith Prince said people needed “breathing space” before being hit by Sadiq Khan’s fees.

He has called on the Mayor to “reset the clock” and put back the charge as many Londoners had not spent the last year preparing for ULEZ.

He said: “To be fair to the Mayor, he did give three years notice.

“But hello, we’ve had this massive pandemic, this is like the worst disaster to hit the country in like 300 years and that’s 18 months.

“So half the time people would have had time to repair have been wiped out.

“So let’s reset the clock, let’s accept that and say fair enough let’s put it back.

“Even a year’s delay would give everyone a chance.

“Your cars will be a little bit older, you’ve a chance to rebuild your bank balance, the semiconductor issues would sort itself out.

“Let’s just give people breathing space to adjust.”

The new ULEZ will see the fee expanded to roads within the North and South Circular.

Last week, Mr Price publicly called on the Mayor of London to delay the new ULEZ in an open letter published on Twitter.

He then questioned Mr Khan at Mayor’s Question Time over the many difficulties workers and businesses would face when the charge is launched.

However, the Mayor blamed the issues on the Conservative Government and added he was ‘excited” to be launching the new charges.
